Hide & Seek with Heartbreak

Playing tag with moments of betrayal

shaking it behind stacks of work,

ducking into bustling pubs,

but come bedtime—

You’re it!

And the mind races

to tag pain in a quiet place.

Wary in a game of hide-and-go-seek

with heartbreak

taking cover in dinner and dessert,

tucking into a show,

but each silent thought

a shattering shard revealing the hiding spot.

Chased by a vengeful vision,

around a comforting corner

comes the capture.

The unwanted eye contact

with lies that reflect in the mirror,

a fool unraveled by facts.
