Tamarind Season

Tamarind season
The laughter, the play, and the sour taste leave our teeth on edge. There is no need to climb the tree, ripe fruits are always scattered on the ground beneath the tree in abundance, and many more dangling from branches just out of reach of us children.
You can gather the fruits to your heart’s content; there is no competition for the sour fruit; one can take it by the bags if one's heart so desires. Everyone knows that two tamarinds and you have enough.
The experience is unforgettable; it is a once-in-a-year treat, and the memories will last until the next tamarind season comes again- yes, that’s tamarind memories for you.
The drink is out of this world, foam to the rim with baking soda; the snack is unique, sprinkled with sugar, a kids’ favorite; duck with fire ashes is a cultural thing. Tamarind is so versatile.
Leftover in a jar resting on a shelf until later in the year. I just love tamarind, but not its sour smell.
