Bum

BUM
A cigarette, like a bumble bee, holds a barbette,
hums a sound in your head. No bounds
around the hedge. No hallo to edge
the shape of your shadow. The vape
drinks the little dregs of escape. Bold
shades of the landscape whet your appetite
when you become the shape of blue
for more smoke. A shift of the drift.
A wearing away of time for the sublime.
Am I made to be high on you always?
Am I not to live without your thoughts
entangling me further in your labyrinth?
Reality is striking the whirlwind
of your unfailing devotion to my ailing
for more. More remembrance. More temperance.
I was six and took twenty sticks a day
fanning the willows with the billows
to capture happiness in a moment of stillness.
